Singer/producer Grimes chose an unconventional strategy to promote her new campaign for Stella McCartney’s Adidas collection.
The 31-year-old electronic music performer, who has been romantically linked to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk since 2018, shared a photo on her Instagram Monday of herself wearing McCartney’s Adidas collection and detailing her eye-popping workout routine. Her caption started a frenzy of comments as people tried to figure out how much of Grimes’ caption was based on reality and how much was an artistic statement.
Grimes (real name: Claire Boucher) said she begins the day with a bevy of supplements to “maximize the function of my mitochondria.” She described spending two to four hours in her sensory deprivation tank before meeting her personal trainer for sword-fighting classes.
In the most surprising part of Grimes’ post, she describes allegedly undergoing eye surgery to prevent seasonal affective disorder, writing, “I have also eliminated all blue light from my vision through an experimental surgery that removes the top film of my eyeball and replaces it with an orange ultra-flex polymer that my friend and I made in the lab this past winter as a means to cure seasonal depression.”
“I go to bed with a humidifier on,” she ended the post.
As a possible follow-up to her IG post, she posted shortly after on Twitter, writing, “I got shinigami eyes. It cost me half my life span but now I can see the true name of everyone and when they will die. Only the real will ones will understand”

ADIDAS: Tell us about ur training regimen ? GRIMES: My training is a 360 approach. I first maintain a healthy cellular routine where I maximize the function of my mitochondria with supplements such as NAD+, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Magnesium, etc. This helps promote ATP and it’s incredibly visceral. From that point I spend 2-4 hours in my deprivation tank, this allows me to “astro-glide” to other dimensions – past, present, and future. In the afternoons I do a 1-2 hour sword fighting session with my trainer, James Lew, we go over the fundamentals that work the obliques, core stabilizes, and triceps as well as a few tricks. To wind down from this I spend 30-45 minutes on an inclined hike at roughly 4-4.5 miles per hour, arguably the most efficient workout. I then spend 45 minutes stretching before heading into the studio where my mind and body are functioning at peak level, with a neuroplastic goal between 57.5 and 71.5 AphC’s (which is my preferred range for my blood type). I’ve outfitted my studio with the highest grade of red light. It is pretty much 1000 sqf IR Sauna. Hana then comes over and we do a screaming session for 20-25 minutes while I slow boil the honey tea that maximizes vocal proficiency. I have also eliminated all blue light from my vision through an experimental surgery that removes the top film of my eyeball and replaces it with an orange ultra-flex polymer that my friend and I made in the lab this past winter as a means to cure seasonal depression. I go to bed with a humidifier on. #asmc #adidasparley #createdwithadidas #gentrifymordor

While Grimes’ Instagram post caused some head-scratching around the Internet, many of her fellow artists came to her defense in the comments section, with Feist writing, “This is my favourite thing I’ve ever read on the Internet,” and Katy Perry agreeing, commenting, “Humidifiers YASSS.”
Who is Grimes?
Longtime fans of Grimes may recognize the more unconventional aspects of her persona from her music, but for the uninitiated, she might seem like a startling personality.
Originally based in Vancouver, Grimes began releasing music as an independent artist in the early 2010s, before breaking out with her third album “Visions” in 2012, which won accolades from critics and landed her on multiple publications’ end-of-year lists.
Established as a young artist to watch and a favorite among discerning electronic music and indie rock fans, she released her fourth album “Art Angels” in 2015, speaking out frequently about her struggles with misogyny in the music industry.
In March, she announced plans for her forthcoming album “Miss_Anthropocene,” describing it as “a concept album about the anthropomorphic Goddess of Climate Change.”
Who is Grimes dating?
Grimes and Musk began dating in 2018, making their debut as a couple at that year’s Met Gala. The couple had a minor controversy in August, when rapper Azealia Banks claimed on social media she had been scheduled to work on music with Grimes and was holed up in Musk’s apartment alone waiting for her for several days, making lurid suggestions including that they had all planned to have a threesome.

Most recently, Grimes changed her name from Clare to the streamlined, lowercase initial “c,” and suggesting in a March 2019 interview with WSJ Magazine that she and Musk were no longer involved, allegedly groaning when his name was mentioned and saying, “Don’t tell him I groaned just now. groaned out of, I don’t know, feminism. I mean, he’s a super-interesting (expletive) person.”
“I love c’s wild fae artistic creativity and hyperintense work ethic,” Musk told the magazine about Grimes.
