All Russian Federation era
Following Russia’s victory in the Novorossiya War, Russian charisma within the Commonwealth of Independent States gradually increased. By the time of the Creation of the All Russian Federation on 12 June 2016, the Russians were effectively in control over the CIS which made it a de facto USSR in everything but name and ideology. The CIS was directed to accept Abkhazia, Artsakh, and South Ossetia even though they were not recognized internationally outside of the Russian Bloc. Turkmenistan agreed to upgrade to full membership under military pressure from Moscow. During the height of World War III, CIS provisional membership was given to Cascadia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, and Lithuania while Russian military occupation ensured acceptance by the states in question. A plan was put into place by the All Russian Federation at the start of 2017 for the reorganization of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union into a new Union of Sovereign States once NATO had been defeated. The defeat of the All Russian Federation in the war, however, prevented this plan from being realised.
Dissolution of the CIS
With the dissolution of the All Russian Federation and the reorganization of the Russian Federation itself into the Russian Confederation, CIS was once again a loose intergovernmental organization. Initially efforts were made to keep CIS intact over the following days, though membership had already been reduced by 28 April 2017 due to Azerbaijan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan being the first to exit through an expedited process. Abkhazia and South Ossetia were forced out when they were annexed into the newly liberated Republic of Georgia. The Commonwealth of Independent States received a major death blow on 30 April 2017 when Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, the three original founding countries, exited the organization after they mutually agreed that the CIS was irreparably tainted by interference from the former All Russian Federation and ex-President Vladimir Putin. Armenia, Artsakh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan quickly followed suit. Like the Soviet Union before, the Commonwealth of Independent States was no more. Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine eventually joined the European Union. The Russian Confederation was forced to stand-alone due to terms of the Armistice of 25 April 2017 prohibiting them from joining the European Union or any other beneficial international organization until a peace treaty was signed.
